Rain water that accumulated after Friday-Saturday’s deluge in many city areas receded today as the situation improved with no rain since yesterday evening.
Large parts of the city were hit by flooding following incessant heavy rainfall, measuring over 170mm, since Friday night due to the effect of cyclone ‘Komen’
“Rain water has receded from areas in the city which were submerged following the rainfall,” Member Mayor in-Council (Drainage) Tarak Singh told PTI today.
Water receded from areas around Central Avenue, Amherst Street, Camac Street, Swinhoe Street, Lansdowne Market and Alipore yesterday evening, Singh said.
“Waterlogging is still there in some areas in ward numbers 122, 125, 126. Our officers are there,” he added.
Several stretches in Behala like Barisha, Thakurpukur and Sarsuna are still under water besides areas in Bansdroni, Naktala and Garia, officials said.
One person was killed after a two-storied building in Gariahat collapsed last night, the police said.
The owner of the house, 55-year-old Amitava Kar was found under the debris and rushed to SSKM hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
