Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the year 2018 should be remembered for success of various government schemes in healthcare, household electrification, clean energy among others.

Addressing the nation through the last ‘ Mann ki baat’ radio address of 2018, Modi said, “The year 2018 should be remembered for the launch of Ayushman Bharat and the success of household electrification missions.”

“The world has acknowledged that health coverage has reached 95 per cent of the country’s population. The year should also be remembered for the Statue of Unity, the Champions of the Earth award and the solar and climate change efforts of India being globally recognised,” he said.

Speaking about the need to improve quality of nutrition in the country, Modi lauded the efforts of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). "The FSSAI is moving beyond its responsibility as the regulator and is acting as an awareness generator. The 'Eat Right India' programme run by the FSSAI should be able to build awareness towards the need for quality and healthy nutrition," he said. "Under the aegis of ‘Eat Right India’ campaign, ‘Swasth Bharat’ (Healthy India) trips are being carried out across the country. These campaigns will last till January 27,” he said.

Modi said that the first International Solar Alliance assembly was conducted in 2018 and the country achieved Nuclear triad this year.“India witnessed the coming up of the tallest statue in the world, ‘Statue of Unity’. The country secured a place of pride & glory in the entire world. The highest United Nations Environment Award ‘Champions of the Earth’ was conferred upon India. The world duly took notice of India’s efforts in the areas of Solar Energy & Climate Change. The first General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance was held in India,” he said.

Modi also highlighted the launch of the waterway terminal at Varanasi and inauguration of the Bogibeel bridge - India’s longest rail-road bridge. The Prime Minister also spoke about India's hundredth -- and Sikkim’s first -- airport at Pakyong, Sikkim, which stated operations this year.
