A 25 KW micro hydroelectric project commissioned by Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA) was inaugurated at Hee-Bermiok today.
The project which can generate electricity for around 500 bulbs was officially handed over to the Village Energy Committee by Chnadra Maya Subba, MLA of Maneybong-Dentam.
Addressing the gathering, Subba urged the committee members to make the best use of the project, which was also an income-generation option provided to it by the government.
The pilot project could set Sikkim on course for economic self sufficiency.
SREDA director, Siporah Targain in his speech encouraged the people to avail the eco-friendly and sustainable facilities being provided by the agency.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Deputy Director, SREDA, LM Subba, GVA Dentam, Himmat Rai, Zilla member, panchayats and stakeholders.
