‘Modern cars well-equipped to maintain air quality’

Modern cars are well-equipped to control interior air quality because of improved multi-filters that can intercept even the smallest of dust particles.

Speaking at a panel discussion on ‘The Pollution Solution,’ organised as a part of Volvo Car’s global awareness generation drive, Andreas Andersson, Attribute Leader Environmental Impact, Volvo, said, “Innovative solutions has made drivers to breathe easier because most microscopic, hazardous ‘fine dust’ particles will now be prevented from entering the car.”

Tom Von Bonsdroff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, said, “Up to 45 per cent of the industrialised world’s population is now suffering from some form of allergy or hypersensitivity. Over 10 per cent has asthma. At Volvo, our commitment to safety goes well beyond safety belts and air bags. It’s about making sure that every minute you and your family spend in a Volvo is as safe as it can possibly be. That includes breathing.”

Suparna Chattarji, Consultant, Advaith Foundation, said, “The damage caused by air pollution to society at multiple levels is much less talked about. These include detrimental effects on physical and mental health. The impact on children is particularly severe..”

Kumaraswamy Krishnappa, ENT surgeon at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences here, said air quality in all major cities of the country is deteriorating and remedial measures are urgently required.
