Amazon Business, its B2B marketplace, which caters to institutional and bulk buyers, including MSMEs, is rapidly scaling up in India. The B2B marketplace has seen over 50 per cent growth in terms of gross merchandise sales in the March quarter alone In India.

“If we look at Q1 of CY2025, we have seen close to 60 per cent growth in quantum of customers who have bought for the first time on Amazon Business. The Gross Merchandise Sales for Amazon Business have seen 50 per cent growth year-on-year. Incidentally, the five year CAGR that we have seen is also over 50 per cent. It has been among the top priorities for Amazon India,” Mitranjan Bhaduri, Director, Amazon Business told businessline.

Globally, Amazon Business has, over the years, emerged as one of the fastest-growing ventures for the e-tailer, achieving annualised sales of $35 billion in 2023, as per the company’s global site.

“Over the past seven years we have built arguably one of the largest bases of business customers in India. We have a base of over 16 lakh sellers. If one looks at the number of sellers who have done more than ₹1 crore of sales in a year...that number has been growing at a CAGR of 30 per cent year-on-year.” he added.

Amazon Business is betting big on the institutional buyers, including medium-, small- and micro-sized businesses, turning to eB2B platforms for wider assortments and seamless deliveries. As per some estimates, the size of the ecommerce B2B space is expected to grow to the tune of $100-$200 million by 2030.“ The eB2B segment is growing at a CAGR of 40 per cent. So digitisation of this segment is fuelling the growth of this segment. Businesses of all sizes across regions are seeking efficiencies and cost savings in procurement and that’s what is driving our growth at Amazon Business,” Bhaduri noted.

He added that businesses in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and towns are getting added to the overall customer base. “Over the last year, we saw 70 per cent of our new customers come from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This also indicates more and more of MSME businesses are seeking digital procurement solutions. We have customer support in seven regional languages and we are providing credit too. Along with these, we have undertaken various measures to simplify the procurement to specifically unlock growth in these regions,” he added.

He added that the B2B marketplace is also constantly working backwards on the needs of the institutional buyers to widen the assortment to 19 crore products over the years. In India, Amazon Business has also now set up three warehouses in the tech parks and said it will expand as demand grows
