Andhra University and Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University — two major universities in Andhra Pradesh — should strive together to use their respective strengths and synergy for improving the lot of farmers in the country and also for the welfare of the public in general, according to G.S.N. Raju, Vice-Chancellor of AU.

He was speaking here on Monday after signing a memorandum of understanding with Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University for “full-fledged cooperation in research projects, consultancy and other areas.”

He said Andhra University in particular could extend the required support to N.G Ranga University in IT and related fields to take agricultural research to the villages.

Agricultural productivity was being affected in several ways due to changes in global climate and there should be greater focus on the area. Concurring with the view, N.G. Ranga University Vice-Chancellor A. Padma Raju said efforts were being made to develop varieties which could withstand climate change and variability.

“We are working together with several international universities, but Andhra University has its own strengths and we need support from this university in our endeavours. It will be mutually beneficial,” he added.
