Nandamuri Suhasini, from the Telugu Cinema-Politico family of former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, N T Rama Rao, is all set to make her political debut.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced her candidature from the Kukatpally constitutency in Hyderabad, Telangana for the December 7 Legislative Assembly elections. TDP candidate M Krishna Rao won the Kukatpally seat in 2014 but later defected to the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi.

The electorate is dominantly of Andhra origin. Suhasini is expected to get goodwill, sympathy and combined opposition votes as she will be fighting under the Mahakutami (grand alliance). She is the daughter of Nandamuri Harikrishna, MP & actor, who recently died in a road accident. Harikrishna, who was a minister in N Chandrababu Naidu cabinet was also instrumental in driving NTR in his famous ‘Chaitanya Ratham’, the campaign vehicle during 1982-83.

Suhasini will file her nomination tomorrow. “I am inspired by my father, grandfather NT Rama Rao and uncle N Chandrababu Naidu and have been interested in politics”, she told the media here.

Suhasini is self employed and is a greenhorn in politics. She can also draw on the popularity of Jr NTR, her step-brother and Nandamuri Balakrishna, filmstar, MLA from AP and uncle during her campaign.

In the Nandamuri family, Daggubati Purandeswari, now in the BJP once served as a Union cabinet minister in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government. The TDP has got 14 seats as part of the Mahakutami (Cong, TDP, CPI & TJS) understanding for the 119 member Legislative Assembly.
