A major concern expressed by prospective solar investors in Tamil Nadu, at a consultative meeting called by the state’s utility, TANGEDCO, was whether the bidders of small-sized project will also be given an opportunity to put up solar projects, in case the total bids received exceeded the offered 1,000 MW.
In response to this, the Chairman of TANGEDCO, K Gnanadesikan, said, “Everybody will get a piece of the cake—you can take that from me.”
Gnanadesikan said that he would not like to talk in specific terms about what would be TANGEDCO’s approach in case the bids received well exceeded 1,000 MW—except to point out that the Tamil Nadu Solar Policy document had details about how such situations would be addressed.
He hinted at pro-rata allotment. “You offer what you can and we will discuss that,” Gnanadesikan added.
