The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Plastic Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA) is set to host the second edition of the Polymer Conference at Hyderabad International Convention Centre later this month where more than 500 delegates are expected to take part.
The polymer conference is being hosted with the support from other polymer associations-- Kpma, Kspa, Tapma, Cipet and Nsic.
Venugopal Jasti, President, TAAPMA, said the plastic industries manufacture materials related to polymers and serve most of the industries. TAAPMA focus is on showcasing best technologies and improving the output and returns for the industry.
The polymer industry in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has been growing at about 15 per cent as against 10-12 per cent in the country. With over 3,000 manufacturing units in both the States, about 6.5 lakh tonnes is produced per annum making it one of the important hubs for procurement for companies.
If the current trends are any indication, more manufacturing units are likely to come up in the two States, Jasti said.
Given the potential for growth, the polymer industry has potential to create major employment opportunities. With the Southern states, particularly, TS and AP, laying special focus on irrigation, demand for pipes and other materials has shot up and likely to continue in the foreseeable future, Jasti told Business Line.
AVPS Chakrabarthy, Managing Director of Ecobliss, said India is the third largest manufacturer of plastics and generates earnings of about $ 23 billion from plastic industry. Nearly 50 lakh people are provided employment in the plastic manufacturing.
Allaying concerns about plastics seen as being bad for the society, he said responsible use is not harmful.
