The Telangana police has banned public meetings and processions within the two-kilometre radius of the State Assembly from today till November 24.
City Police Commissioner M Mahendar Reddy issued a notification on Tuesday in this regard. He said all such meetings and processions that could potentially disturb peace are banned till November 24.
The notification comes in the wake of protests planned by the students of Osmania University and Telugu Desam Party. The police has cordoned off the Osmania University entrance and exit points to stop students from proceeding to the Assembly.
The Budget session of the Assembly is in progress, punctuated by protests by the legislators of Telugu Desam and Congress. The Speaker has suspended 10 TDP members as they disrupted the proceedings.
