Chandigarh, Lucknow, New Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru were found to be the five happiest cities in India, according to a study commissioned by LG and conducted by IMRB International.

The study, called ‘LG Life’s Good Happiness Study,’ has found that happiness is the most important value of life for Indians compared to other sentiments such as respect, trust, success or recognition.

Indians in the age group of 35-45 years are happier compared to the younger Indians aged 18-24. While the younger people rank happiness as an important component (58 per cent aged 18-24 ranking happiness as their most important core value) the study’s index scores showed that it is the older people aged 35-45 are happier as compared to them.

Soon Kwon MD LG India said, “The study is a manifestation of our brand philosophy to develop and market products that make our consumers’ lives happy. It has been undertaken to understand the social construct of happiness.” He added that the company is looking at undertaking this study annually.

The study was conducted by the IMRB International with a sample size of 2,424 respondents across 16 cities. The target groups were SEC A, B, C, aged 18-45. “Relationships and family time is what makes Indians happy. Indians are most happy on aspects related to family as illustrated by factors like “the amount of time we get to spend,” “the quality of relations with friends and family” and the “support from friends and family,” the study stated.

It also said that the overall status of the country, things that enhance social status and the state of social and cultural values, were found to be as the bottom factors on the Happiness Index.
