Cloud computing firm Salesforce.com will train one lakh students in India to equip them with skills of the future through its Trailhead programme.
Trailhead trains students and individuals with a keen interest in learning Salesforce. Globally, there are 600,000 learners on Trailhead.
Deepak Pargaonkar, Senior Director — Solutions Engineering, Salesforce India, told BusinessLine Salesforce is looking to hire several of these students who’ll be trained on the platform. It’ll also assist others to work with thousands of its partners in India to create a large ecosystem of developers and trained professionals.
Skill gap
Students with skills on cloud platforms like Salesforce typically command better salaries than regular IT graduates. According to a research by IDC, companies find that their time to deploy a resource is reduced significantly with students having prior knowledge (through Trailhead for Students) and they are ready to offer at least 20-30 per cent more than for regular graduates.
According to IDC, there are also additional jobs created in the supply and distribution chains serving those Salesforce customers and from new company employees spending money in the general economy. These jobs, called indirect or induced jobs by economists, are not calculated here, but economists generally estimate that every direct job creates more than 1–2 indirect or induced jobs.

Individuals are struggling to meet the expectations and job seekers are lacking the skills needed to thrive in today’s workforce. To solve this skill gap, Salesforce is working with industry and academia through our Trailhead initiative to prepare students for this ever-changing business world. Our goal is to prepare the next generation of trailblazers with in-demand job skills, thereby contributing to the Salesforce Economy in India,” Pargaonkar said.
