Shubhra Singh, a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthancadre, is the new chairperson of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

Formerly with the Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy (DIPP) and also the Principal Chief Resident Commissioner of Rajasthan, Singh has taken charge of NPPA with immediate effect.

Singh has to tackle a number of challenges, including recovering ₹3,563.81 crore, which pharma companies owe the government as fine for overcharging through wrongly jacking up prices of those drugs that are supposed to have the MRP tag under a ceiling price prescribed by the government.

This is now locked in litigation.
