“I will be back,” is as far Tiger Woods would confirm. But that is enough to send the pulse racing. There is lot of talk about Woods coming to India and this time for an entire tournament. It could happen sometime in 2020 or 2021, depending on the schedule of the 14-time Major winner.

Now that Woods has renewed his relationship with one of India’s most famous global companies, Hero MotoCorp, the question is when will he come next to India.

Woods has been to India just once, and that, too, for a trip that lasted around 36 hours and included a round of golf with Hero’s Chairman, Pawan Munjal, a keen golfer himself. It elicited crowds never seen before at the Delhi Golf Club. That week an idea took shape in both minds.

Before the year was out, Woods was Hero’s Global Corporate Partner, and Hero had become the title sponsor of the $3.5 million World Challenge.

Fitting the schedule

Munjal, who played Wednesday’s Pro-Am with Woods, said, “I have been asked when is Tiger coming to India many times. All I can say is that he is coming back for sure, but when is the question.”

Clearly, it is a matter of fitting it in the schedule. While 2019 may seem tough, but it could happen in 2020 or 2021.

When Woods steps on Indian soil for an event, it will be a big day for Indian golf and it could even happen at the Indian Open, also supported by Hero.

As for the relationship between the two, which has evolved and strengthened through the years, Woods said, “We’re excited to have Hero with us for the next four years. They’ve been an incredible partner over the last four.”

On his charity foundation, he said: “It has been more impactful than what I have done on the golf course; but what I have done on golf course has allowed me to do this.
