Team Mikudu, a Kerala-based free blood donation platform, won the Kochi regional round of BusinessLine Cerebration Corporate Quiz presented by Union Bank of India and powered by BSNL here on Saturday.

The team members — Ramdas Mullath and Jayanthi Gopal — received the cash prize of ₹10,000 from A Krishnaswamy, Deputy General Manager of Union Bank of India, Nodal Regional Office, Ernakulam, at the event held at the Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management.

The Federal Bank team represented by Midhun V Zachariah and Amrut Itty Abraham was the first runner-up and received mementos from K Francis Jacob, Principal General Manager Telecom, BSNL, Ernakulam. The second runner-up was the duo from Malayala Manorama, Arun Thomas and Nithin Suresh.

The Mikudu team will now participate in the national finals to be held in Mumbai on September 22.

The Kochi regional round witnessed a good turnout with the participation of more than 50 teams in the preliminary paper-and-pen round.

Questions ranged from topics about the host State —“Which brand’s magazine is Happiness? (Answer: Lulu Mall), “If Popy umbrella has I-track, who has I-auto? (Answer: John’s umbrella)”, and “Identify the author of the book How I Gave Away a Kidney and Got Richer at Heart (Answer: Kochouseph Chittilappili, Founder and Chairman, V-Guard) — to the world at large — “How does Cafe Positive of Kolkata stand out from the rest of the hotels in India?” (Answer: It is manned by HIV+ staff) or “Which company has an internal system called GUTS where employees file tickets about problems that the company can track?” (Answer: Google). Six teams — Digital Core Technologies, Federal Bank, Visual IQ, Malayala Manorama , Mikudu, Thoughtskool — qualified for the four-round finale. The competition, hosted by Miraj C Vora of Quiz Works, had questions in text, audio, visual and video formats.

The Hindu BusinessLine Cerebration Business quiz is considered to be one of the toughest competitions and is popular among the quizzing fraternity in India. The Quiz targets business professionals, corporate executives, MBA aspirants and students from India’s top B-schools.

The event was managed by WOOT Factor Events Pvt Ltd. Rajagopala Nair, Dean, Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, was also present.
