Whatever be the political fortunes of the leaders contesting the December 7 elections to the Telangana Legislative Assembly, their personal and family financial assets have shown a healthy growth during 2014-18.

Leading the growth brigade is the first family of Telangana State, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar himself. His son and Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao has declared an impressive overall rise in assets of the family.

The Chief Minister and Chief of the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS), who is seeking re-election from the Gajwel constituency has declared total assets of ₹22.60 crore at present against ₹15.95 core in 2014, a 41 per cent increase.

His liabilities grew to ₹8.89 crore from ₹7.87 cr in 2014. An agriculturist, KCR has declared 54 acres in Erravelli village. In comparison, his landholding was 38 acres in 2014.

The TRS leader has declared an annual income of ₹2.07 crore. In addition, his wife K Shobha, a housewife, has movable assets of ₹94.60 lakh.

The assets declared by his main challenger and chief of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee N Uttam Kumar Reddy show that the ex-Air Force officer’s assets marginally declined, while his wife N Padmavathi’s has shown a solid growth.

Uttam Kumar, contesting from Nalgonda, declared assets of ₹2 crore, slipping from ₹2.1 crore in 2014. His annual income is also down to ₹24 lakh from ₹32 lakh. However, his wife, who declared no assets in 2014, has shown ₹1 crore this time, mainly landholdings in Kodad.

But, the star performer in overall asset growth is also the most popular face of the TRS government, KT Rama Rao. Seeking to regain the Sircilla seat (which he narrowly won in 2014), KTR has declared total assets of ₹41 crore, including his wife K Shaimila’s.

Phenomenal rise

The growth since KTR became an MLA in 2014 is spectacular to say the least. His wife comes out way richer than the Minister. For example, KTR’s assets are shown as ₹4.93 crore compared to ₹36.68 crore of Shaimila, whose profession is listed as business. Rhe assets were ₹2.07 crore and ₹3.72 crore respectively in 2014.

As far as annual income is concerned it has grown from 29 lakh in 2014 to ₹74 lakh now. Identified as agriculturist, his earnings are also mostly from agriculture ( ₹59.85 lakh). Wife’s income rose phenomenally from ₹21 lakh to ₹4 crore now. Their landholdings in Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Medak etc are valued at ₹10 crore as per the declaration.

The MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, brother of Asaduddin Owaisi, MP, who is contesting from Chandrayangutta in old city of Hyderabad has shown a marginal increase in assets at ₹11.13 crore.
