The Telangana government has constituted a task force on urban mobility to study the feasibility of the monorail model and other modes of transport for the IT corridor of the city.

Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, issued orders after Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao observed the need for it in a growing metropolis.

The committee/task force will suggest the corridors for phase II and phase III of the metro-rail project, suggest best and most economical ways of transport, including monorail, tram and e-vehicles on various routes in a synergistic manner.

The committee will also suggest options for various methods of funding such projects and raising resources including PPPs, joint ventures and annuity funding. It will submit its recommendations to the government.

It was felt there is a need to integrate various modes of transportation such as metro rail, buses, monorail, MMTS, tram, e-vehicles, etc, keeping in view the traffic requirements for the next five decades.

Rao felt the Outer Ring Road, national highways, State highways and satellite towns as well as urban local bodies in a radius of 100 km from Hyderabad also need to be kept in view.

The committee comprises government representatives and members from the corporate sector. While the Principal Secretary will be the Member Convenor, it will have advisor to government G Vivek, Industries and Commerce Principal Secretary and Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing as members.

The committee will also have Salarpuria Group MD, Phoenix Group Chairman, Meenakshi Group Chairman, RMZ Corporation Chairman, LTMRHL CEO and MD, and Greenko Energies CEO and MD as members.
