The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday unveiled its disaster management plan — ‘State Disaster Management — Perspective Plan — 2018-2030,’ prepared by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

The book, which was released by the Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, will contain details on the impact of disasters, estimation of losses in various types of disasters, preventive measures without disturbing the environment, administrative infrastructure, readiness to handle disasters, compensation to be awarded, rebuilding post-disaster, to plan developmental activities by taking into account of the disaster management plans and funds required for handling such catastrophes, among others, according to an official release.

The Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Perspective Plan has been framed under the Disaster Management Act of 2005.

Sendai framework for disaster risk reduction, United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals of 2030, Paris Agreement on Climate Change and its goals, National Disaster Management Plan of 2016 and Prime Minister’s 10-point agenda on disaster risk reduction, formed the basis for preparing the futuristic plan, said the statement.

The State government sanctioned the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Perspective Plan in July this year.
