Abhinav, a class VI student of Stanes Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School here, who emerged winner at the national level Doodle for Google competition in the category of students from class IV-VI could hardly express his joy on his return to Coimbatore.
Abhinav incidentally was the only contestant from South India to reach the top spot in second category.
“It was quite unexpected. I was happy when my name figured among the 45 shortlisted for the final round. I was dumb-struck when they announced the winners,” said this unassuming 12-year-old.
Abhinav, according to his mother Chithra Ramesh has a flair for drawing. “He is usually shy and restrains from taking part in any drawing contest. He started taking formal lessons in drawing from his kindergarten days,” she said.
A sketch of Buddha dominated Abhinav's doodle on the Google logo based on the theme ‘India's Gift to the world', taking the space of the alphabet ‘O', besides images to represent the chariot wheel, spices, yoga and Kohinoor diamond among others.
Asked where he drew the idea from for the theme, he said, “I sketched with my grandparents guidance, but ultimately showed it to my art teacher for endorsement.”
Around 1.55 entries from students studying in standards I- X from 45 schools across the country is said to have poured in, of which 45 were shortlisted for the final round. Four out of this 45 shortlisted entries to the final were from Coimbatore.
