A monsoon beach food festival will be organised in Mangalore on August 9-10.
Yatish Baikampady, Chief Executive Officer of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, told Business Line that the festival would feature the delicacies of coastal Karnataka. The thrust will be on the food prepared during the ‘Aati’ month of Tulu calendar. (‘Aati’ is a month during which the coastal districts such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi witness heavy rains.)
The beach food festival will be conducted in association with Rotary Club of Mangalore Central, he said.
Rajagopala Rai, president of Rotary Club of Mangalore Central, said: “Our elders had knowledge about the nutritional value and medicinal values of various food items prepared during ‘Aati’ month. This food festival on the beach is an effort to make the present generation understand the food habits and culture of the region.”
Considering the holidays in mind, the organisers are expecting a good crowd for this monsoon beach food festival.
Rai said that Eid holiday on August 9 and the second Saturday holiday on August 10 should help attract good number of visitors to the food festival that would be conducted on a beach.
While entry to the food festival is free, the food served will be charged reasonably, he said.
