Basheer urf Tejakhan is a much-loved senior citizen of Peharsar village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district. He recently offered his ancestral haveli for development activities, especially the training of young girls in a vocation. The octogenarian is a repository of tales of change and progress. He recalls how his community was forced out of the village during the Partition in 1947. But his father, Murad Khan, was not willing to leave the country and in two months the entire family was back where they belonged. “We have always lived in affection and brotherhood here,” he says.
