With less than a week to go before Bharat Stage IV emission norms become a reality, the Supreme Court is expected to take a call on Friday on the inventory pileup of BS III vehicles. There are an estimated five lakh plus two-wheeler stocks piled up at dealerships and over 50,000 heavy trucks. If the apex court decides that April 1 will only see registration of BS IV vehicles, then their will involve a considerable write-off.
Some manufacturers already said that they ready with BS IV-compliant vehicles. On the other hand, there are manufactures saddled with BS III stocks who insist that the date of manufacture be taken as the criterion to herald new emission norms as has been the case in the past. It is now up to the apex court to take a call, which could have some implications for a section of industry.
