The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed GAIL (India) Ltd to sell natural gas at the same rate to all the domestic and vehicular customers.
This follows the July 25, 2012 order of Gujarat High Court asking the Government to allot natural gas at the same rate to Ahmedabad, as it is supplied to Delhi and Mumbai to enforce right of equality.
Currently, GAIL supplies cheaper gas to consumers in the National Capital and Mumbai, while expensive imported gas is sold to remaining parts of the country.
“GAIL would supply domestic gas to city gas distribution (CGD) entities for purpose of CNG (transport) and PNG (domestic) at uniform base price. However, the delivered price of domestic gas to individual CGD entities for CNG and PNG may vary on account of transportation charges and local taxes and duties,” the Ministry has said.
