AG&P (Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific Company of Manila), which has won the rights to create a network and deliver natural gas in 28 districts in India, foresees investments close to $1.3 billion.

“Investment by AG&P will be substantial and in a phased manner as construction of the infrastructure gets underway, with a projected investment of $1.3 billion,” said PPG Sarma, Managing Director, City Gas Distribution and Logistics, AG&P.

The company will set up City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in Chikmagalur, Mysore, Bagalkot, Gulbarga, Uttarkannada in Karnataka, Anantapur, Nellore, Chitoor in Andhra Pradesh, Vellore in Tamil Nadu, and Thiruvananathapuram in Kerala.

“So far on ground, we have already started mapping the routes of our lines in each area and have put together the detailed implementation plan which will be rolled out step-by-step over the coming months and beyond,” said Joseph M Sigelman, CEO, AG&P Group.

AG&P plans to establish its presence across the southern States and Rajasthan.

“The company will be connecting domestic households and commissioning more natural gas stations with the help of steel pipelines/LNG by truck across the geographies awarded,” he added.

The company sees challenges in recruiting skilled labour and training new recruits. “While the senior leadership is already in place, we will require thousands of skilled professionals to work with us in a variety of positions as we ramp up our programme to bring piped natural gas and CNG to homes, commercial establishments and industries,” explained Sarma.
