Ashok Leyland plans to roll out modern advanced trucks by 2013.

According to Mr Nitin Seth, Executive Director (LCV) of Ashok Leyland, by 2013, two new types of modern trucks developed on two new platforms would be rolled out from its second upcoming manufacturing unit at Chennai.

He was speaking after formally launching ‘Dost' at Kumar Engineering Company, the company's dealer for North Karnataka at Hubli.

The Managing Director of Kumar Engineering Company, Mr Shashikumar Desai, said that they already had 100 bookings for the new LCV and they would be delivered during Deepavali festival.

Mr Seth said that the company also had plans to increase the production capacity at its Hosur manufacturing unit near Bangalore to 55,000 units by next year. The manufacturing unit at Hosur would be exclusively for the LCVs.

He said that the company would be increasing its dealers for the LCVs from the present 25-60 by the end of the fiscal year.

“At present, we are selling the LCV in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Once the production capacity is increased, we will expand the dealership network”, he said.

Mr Seth said that more variants of the LCV were in the pipeline including a passenger vehicle.

“The company has so far invested over Rs 1,250 crore for the joint venture with Nissan Motor Company. We will be using the Nissan technology but will be customising it for the local conditions”, he said.
