A fresh round of talks between the Bajaj Auto management and the workers union held here today proved to be inconclusive, following which the latter has threatened to intensify the stir.
The talks were held in the presence of Madhukar Gaekwad, Chief Labour Commissioner, Maharashtra, and the Pune Additional Labour Commissioner, R.R. Hendre.
While the management’s rejection of the union’s demand for ESOPs was cited as reason for the stoppage of work at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant since June 25, the main issue now revolves around their demand for re-instatement of 22 suspended workers. The Vishkalyan Kamgar Sena (VKS), the Bajaj union, has garnered the support of the Shramik Ekta Mahasangh (SEM), an umbrella organisation that claims the affiliation of 88 labour unions in the Pune industrial belt, a majority from the auto and auto component industries. They had threatened that work stoppage would spread across the belt in what would be a mass stir.
