International hospitality major Carlson Rezidor will roll out two new hotels in Kolkata in 2013. The company is also eyeing tie-ups with developers to manage larger properties.

On Tuesday, the company inaugurated its first hotel in the city under the ‘Park Plaza’ brand in south Kolkata. The 92-room, mid to upper mid-scale category hotel, Park Plaza Kolkata Ballygunge is developed by Kolkata-based Mukti Group.

Second hotel

According to Ronnie Lobo, Vice-President-Operations, South Asia, Carlson Rezidar Hotel Group, the company will inaugurate its second hotel here in Central Kolkata by the end of this year.

“The hotel, coming up under the Radisson Blu brand will be managed by the Carlson group,” Lobo said.

The Carlson Group currently operates hotels in India under the brands Radisson Blu, Radisson, Park Plaza, Country Inn & Suites and Park Inn by Radisson and manages 63 properties in the country between these brands.

National Operations

The company plans to set up 44 new properties across the country by the end of 2015.

“Our focus is on managing properties that have around 150 or more keys. Most of the new properties that we plan to manage are large format ones,” Lobo said.

This apart, the group has already formed a joint venture with Bestech Hospitalities to develop Park Inn hotels in north and central India. It is eyeing similar alliances in south, west and eastern parts of the country.

Last year, the group had sealed a strategic deal with Bestech to develop a network of 49 ‘Park Inn by Radisson’ hotels in north and central India by 2024. The alliance partners had decided to jointly invest $42 million to develop the first two hotels at Gurgaon and Mohali.
