The senior management of car maker Ford India today met Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in Gandhinagar. A delegation of Ford India officials led by President Nigel Harris greeted the Chief Minister and apprised her about the progress made on the company’s upcoming plant at Sanand, Government sources informed.

This was the first official visit of the Ford India leadership after she assumed charge as Chief Minister. “The delegation congratulated her on becoming the Chief Minister and thanked her for all the support that the State Government has extended the company for its project at Sanand,” said a company official.

Ford is setting up a manufacturing facility at Sanand near Ahmedabad at an approximate cost of $1 billion (around Rs 6,000 crore at the current exchange rate). Company sources said work on the project is progressing on schedule and the plant will be commissioned by the year-end.

The first car from the facility, located near Tata Motor’s Nano factory in Sanand, will roll out in the early part of 2015. The plant would directly employ around 5,000 people.

Ford India sold 11,935 vehicles in domestic wholesales and exports in June, a 36 per cent increase over 8,771 total vehicles sold over the corresponding period last year. The company’s domestic wholesales stood at 7,258 vehicles during June, as compared to 7,145 vehicles in the same period last year, while exports rose to 4,677 units.
