Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has surpassed the 8-million-unit sales mark in 11 years of operations, the company said in a statement.
The two-wheeler maker, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda, Japan, now plans to expand production capacity and launch new two-wheelers at reasonable prices across all segments. HMSI aims to touch 21 lakh unit sales in 2011-12 from its facilities in Manesar (Haryana) and Tapukara (Rajasthan).
It has started production at its second plant at Tapukara and expects to double capacity to 12 lakh units by March 2012.
A third plant is also planned near Bangalore after on the back of an MoU signed with the Karnataka Government in July. Once operational in first half of 2013, this plant will have an annual production capacity of 12 lakh units and cumulatively expand total capacity to 40 lakh units.
