India’s largest automaker Tata Motors today said it will recruit graduate engineers from Jammu & Kashmir to work at its automobile sales and service network and will also provide employment- oriented training to youth from the state.

Tata Motors becomes the first automobile company to sign an MoU with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation), under PM’s Udaan Scheme, through Tata Motors Certified Works Manager Programme, the auto major said in a statement.

“The move to collaborate with NSDC under the Udaan scheme is to create employment opportunities for the educated youth of J&K by providing them with skilful practical knowledge of vehicle operations and service,” Sanjeev Garg, Global Head - Customer Care, Tata Motors said.

As per the ‘Tata Motors Certified Works Manager Scheme’, the company would recruit fresh graduates from engineering colleges of Jammu & Kashmir and provide them employment opportunities across Tata Authorised Service Stations, the company said.

“The MoU (with NSDC) was signed to explore training and employment opportunities for graduates, post-graduates, three-year engineering diploma holders and professional degree holders in the state, through a collaborative action-oriented agenda,” it added.

Tata Motors sales and service network consists of 1,300 sales touch points and over 1,100 service touch points across the country.

“We are delighted to work with Tata Motors. The NSDC is aiming to contribute significantly (about 30 per cent) to overall target of skilling and upskilling 500 million people in India by 2022,” Dilip Chenoy, CEO & MD, NSDC said.

Tata Motors Certified Works Manager scheme promises to provide employment to thousands of youth in J&K, he added.

Udaan is a special industry initiative for J&K envisaged as an industry-led programme, wherein corporates will tap into the large pool of educated youth of J&K and make them employment ready by providing training.
