Woodland has forayed into the eyewear segment with a range of products that will target outdoor and adventure sports enthusiasts.

The company will initially launch this range of products in 10-15 stores located in the key metros as well sell them through the online channel.

Explaining the reason for foraying into the eyewear segment, Harkirat Singh, MD, Woodland, said that the company, which has been offering adventure and outdoor sports gear for sometime, felt there is a growing market for such specialised glasses and had been receiving requests from consumers.

“Outdoor accessories and gear business currently contributes about 20 per cent to our overall revenues and we expect the eyewear segment to contribute about 2-3 per cent to our revenues initially,” he added.

The company will initially launch about ten outdoor eyewear SKUs with a starting price of Rs 4,000 and above.

Singh said the company would look at expanding this range of eyewear over time depending on the response from consumers. He said it will also look at expanding distribution to additional stores in due course of time. The company has over 500 stores in the country.

Woodland outdoor glasses are made with a special grade of nylon (TR90) which is light-weight and resists chemical and UV damage. It will have interchangeable lenses that will offer protection from harmful UV rays , increase clarity and prevent fogging.

“Woodland outdoor eyewear will provide the ultimate protection for fast moving sports,” he added.
