The fifth edition of Covai Flower Show 2012 is slated for three days (January 6-8) at the Botanic Gardens of the farm varsity here.

Organised jointly by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and Rotary Uptown, Coimbatore, the event aims to promote the concept of conserving nature/environment, educating children about the diversification of flowers and its value, bringing horticulturists and floricultural entrepreneurs to the same platform for sharing of ideas and experience, university experts said.

‘Say it with flowers' would be the theme of the event, said the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor, Dr P. Murugesa Boopathi.

And to demonstrate the theme, the organisers plan to showcase more than 250 varieties of flowers, including annual flowers such as Asters, Petunias, Chrysanthemum, Salvias, Marigold and cut flowers such as rose, Anthurium, Orchid, Gerbera, Lilium to name a few.

Unique flower arrangement including arrangement with exotic and dry flowers, flower mimic structures, bonsai, flower rangoli, Ikebana style flower arrangement, medicinal plants gallery, vegetable carving, water cascade etc would be the highlight of the flower show, the Vice- Chancellor said.

Different varieties

Farm scientists said that they would be mobilising different flower varieties by importing the stuff from Hosur, Bangalore, Pune, Udhagamandalam, Kodaikanal, Shimla, Kashmir, Orchids from Thailand and exotic varieties from Holland and South America
