The rising trend witnessed in tea prices continued this week with the average price at Sale No: 34 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA), which concluded on Friday, rising to an 18-week high of ₹92.68 a kg. This was as much as ₹27 more per kg compared to the price this time last year. It was around ₹5 per kg more than last week.
The higher price brought down the volume sold to 12.76 lakh kg from last week’s 13.52 lakh kg. This was the lowest volume sold in the last 15 weeks.
As the volume sold was less, the overall realisation stood flat at ₹11.83 crore compared to last week despite the sharp rise in price. In other words, although the price was more, there was no change in the take-home money for producers.
However, as much as 95.43 per cent of the offer was sold – the highest percentage in 2018.
