The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, directed Nedcap (New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP Ltd) to prepare a comprehensive action plan to boost non-conventional energy resources, focusing special attention on wind power generation.

It plans to set up farms and tap solar power units.

It hopes to achieve this by encouraging entrepreneurs with fresh incentives and better tariffs.

Reviewing the progress of renewable energy sources, the Chief Minister wanted the State to target 10,000 MW of wind power during the next 5 years. Mr Reddy felt that the State could garner a big chunk of Rs 5,000 crore provided by 13th Finance Commission for 2013-14 to be extended through the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India.

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of projects under implementation by the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP Ltd (Nedcap). He expressed the need to fully exploit the potential of wind and solar power in the State by involving panchayats and municipalities.
