Small entrepreneurs feel that the Union Ministry for Entrepreneurship should play an active role in simplifying things for start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Their views hold significance as the Union Budget for 2014-15 is scheduled for July 10. Sarbananda Sonowal is the Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, along with Skill Development and Youth Affairs and Sports.

Naren Koduvattat, Chairman and Managing Director of the Mangalore-based i-POINT Consulting Services Pvt Ltd, told Business Line that the Ministry can help entrepreneurs by simplifying things.

For example, every entrepreneur has to deal with umpteen number of government agencies. The magnitude of efforts to be spent for meeting all these people is the same for small and big entrepreneurs, he said.

Stressing the need for a national incubation network with strong presence in tier-2 centres, he said the incubation centres will help the small start-ups to have a slightly higher priority treatment. They can focus on their business rather than running around other things.

Unni Koroth, Chief Executive Officer of Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd (a start-up focusing on providing enterprise software solutions for education institutions with its product Fedena), said that the ministry is expected to create a good ecosystem of entrepreneurs in India and to increase the job creation rate.

“Creating an ecosystem is not easy and quick. It will take many years. If the Minster of State for Entrepreneurship can simplify the tax structure, company laws, compliance policies and regulations for ‘exit’ and can provide great infrastructure support to entrepreneurs, it can create wonders,” he said.
