These days there are crowds rushing to bank branches either to deposit ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes they have or to get ₹4,000. All because of the demonetisation of these notes by the government.

But even in the midst of agony, some are happy. Typical of the Indian mindset, that where there is a crowd, there is business, a few enterprising men are looking at this as an opportunity.

Why not make best use of the the chunk of potential customers they get at a single location to boost their business? This is what a two-wheeler dealer did in Mangaluru.

Whenever customers entered the main branch of State Bank of India at State Bank Circle in Mangaluru on Saturday, two salespersons from a local two-wheeler showroom were there to greet them outside the entrance of the bank. They were giving a handout of their showroom and product brochures to those going in and coming out of the bank branch.

Not everyone of course was willing to see it in appreciative light. There was actually annoyance.

A customer, who was rushing to the branch to exchange the notes he had, was a bit taken aback when he saw the handouts. “How can you expect me to buy two-wheeler from your showroom in situations like this? Depositing the existing ₹500 notes and getting some money in ₹100 denomination is more important for me than your two-wheelers,” he said.

The salesperson, who was doing his job, said that he has been asked by his boss in the showroom to handover the handouts to those who came there. He was just doing his duty, he said.

Some people want to fish in troubled waters in situations like this, rued this customer, while sliding the handout into his shirt pocket.
