The ongoing golden jubilee year celebrations of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will conclude with a two-day event from December 10.

Prof Samir Barua, Director, told reporters here on Wednesday that a large number of alumni from across batches and former faculty members would visit the campus to participate in the events. The Institute, which was opened on December 10, 1961, will also confer Distinguished Alumnus Award to some of the alumni for their sterling accomplishments.

“Very few institutions in India have survived the vagaries of time. The IIM-A is one institution that has held its head high and evolved,” he added.

On this occasion, The Story of IIMA – The DNA of an Institution , a book authored by Prof Prafull Anubhai, will be released by Mr K.V. Kamath, Chairman, Infosys Technologies.

Ms Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, noted singer and Chairperson of Tandon Capital Associates Inc., will give a live performance on December 10. Ms Tandon, sister of PepsiCo chief Indra Nooyi, was nominated for Grammy Award this year for her work ‘Om Namo Narayana: Soul Call', featuring Sanskrit chants, in the ‘Best Contemporary World Music Album' category.

An alumna of IIM-A, also trained in Western music, she is on the board of the New York University Business School. She worked with McKinsey for long and now manages the business of Tandon Capital Associates.

During the golden jubilee year, IIM-A organised a number of events to mark its 50 years' journey, including the convocation on March 26, 2011 in which the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, was the chief guest. Several IIM-A chapters such as those in Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi also organised the golden jubilee celebrations.

Two such chapters in the US, the East and West Coast Chapters, too are active, Dr Barua said.
