The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) plans to target north Karnataka to drive container volume.
Speaking at a seminar on “Promotion of imports and exports from north Karnataka” at Hubli, Mr N. Vaiyapuri, Traffic Manager, MPT, said “Currently only a few exporters in the region are availing the port facilities for exports.
“In the coming days, we will be offering them better services like providing containers, if the volume is more. From May 2012, will be providing the Drug Controller service for export pharmaceutical products,” he added.
The MPT officer also assured the Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) that they would be visiting Hubli every month to co-ordinate exports and importers of the region. The seminar was organised by the KCCI in association with Visvesvaraya Industrial Trade Centre (VITC), Dharwad, and Dharwad district lead bank, Vijaya Bank. Mr Vasant N. Ladawa, Vice-President, KCCI, said the chamber has been making efforts to improve the export base in the region. “We recently had taken a delegation to MPT, Goa, to understand the feasibility and infrastructure at the port.
The MPT offered a number of facilities to cater the needs of exporters. This will help north Karnataka to flourish,” he said. Dr Veeranna S.H., Joint Director, VITC, Dharwad, said “VITC is giving number of services such as guidance to exporters, trade enquiries, export facilities that are given by state as well as central government and providing information to get import-export licence, incentives for the emerging, existing and export oriented units and also for the SEZ.”
He appealed to the exporters and importers to avail the facilities available by VITC. Mr G.S. Basavarajappa, Lead District Manager, Vijaya Bank, spoke on the financial assistance given by the banks.
