The 58th annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) kicked off here on Thursday, with both industry and government asking each other for help.
For instance, Abhay Firodia, President, asked for speedy infrastructure development and better roads for vehicles to ply. He said encroachments on roads and highways should not be allowed because that was the main reason for accidents and slow traffic.
In return, Anant Geete, Minister of Heavy Industries and Enterprises, said the government was with the industry and would do whatever it could. "We are with the industry and will do whatever we can do to help the industry grow...SIAM and ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India) are like a family, and my ministry is the head of that family. Therefore, we will do whatever is right as the head," Geete said.
He also appreciated the automobile industry as the highest tax payer in the country, so 'no fear' should be there. On future technologies, Geete added, "We can discuss everything to go with time. As the technology grows, we ourselves have to be prepared in order to make environment-friendly products."
