The Kochi Port Joint Trade Unions Forums has sought the intervention of the Shipping Ministry to save the port which faces serious financial crisis.
In a representation submitted to the visiting Shipping Minister G. K. Vasan, trade union leaders said the present problems of the port have seriously affected salary and pension payments.
The trade unions forumhighlighted several issues before the Minister. These include: waiving of loan interest of the port, providing financial support for maintenance dredging, revision of wharfage rates from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, issues connected with TAMP rates, land policy guidelines of major ports and issues connected with Shipping Corporation of India at Vallarpadam terminal.
