Tripura Government has decided to set up a bamboo park at Bodhjungnagar industrial park, 13 km from here, to ensure value addition to raw bamboo which is abundantly available in the State.
Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services has been entrusted with the task of establishing the Rs 29.35 crore bamboo park, which would produce items like bamboo flooring, laminated board, mat board, corrugated roofing sheet and incense stick, the Tripura Commerce and Industries Minister, Mr Jiten Chowdhury, said.
The Forest Department has also evolved a comprehensive plan to boost bamboo cultivation. As per the plan, altogether 26,107 hectares of land will be brought under the integrated bamboo cultivation in the next financial year (2011-12).
