It was no cliff-hanger finish. When Sreekanth G. and Jayakanthan R. from Tata Consultancy Services rightly connected Joe Thompson to 7-11 Corporation, they were merely completing a formality at Cerebration — Business Line ’s corporate quiz.
TCS was on a roll through the regional final, winning by a big margin. Two teams from Infosys came in second and third; Caterpillar, Cognizant and Accenture were the other teams that made it to the first regional final in Chennai, after a tough written prelim in which 25 teams participated.
Regional finals will also be conducted in Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. The winners of each regional round will compete in the national finale, in Mumbai.
The Chennai quiz had six rounds that tested the knowledge of participants on corporate affairs, current and old.
* Which is the corporation that used the first ever industrial robots? The right answer is General Motors.
* PricewaterhouseCoopers is the merger between Pricewaterhouse, Coopers and _________? If you got Lybrand, pat yourself on your back.
* Did you know Richie Rich is the big brand, born to Regina and Richard, with a value that hasn’t diminished for over 40 years?
All finalists got a tablet PC from AppTab. In addition, the winners walked away with shiny trophies presented by S. Pattabiraman, General Manager, Corporation Bank, the title sponsors. NCDEX and SAIL are the associate sponsors of Cerebration, anchored by quiz master Giri Balasubramanian of Pickbrains.
TCS’ Sreekanth and Jayakanthan, avid quizzers for long, have earlier won the Brand Equity and Tata Crucible quizzes.
But it was not a battle of wits on stage alone. The audience too competed to bag goodies. Especially Janaki Kashinath, the 52-year-old home-maker.
A regular at quizzes in the city, she cheered participants and answered audience questions with child-like enthusiasm.
