Proper waste water management is a must for viable business models in pharmaceutical and other industries, according to Jayant Tagore Madireddy, President of Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association (BDMA).

Speaking at a seminar on financing water and waste-water projects in India organised by the Federation of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) in association with ETI Dynamics here on Wednesday, he said pharma industry was disposing used water in `responsible’ manner.

``Pharma industry has been classified as `Red’ category industry by the ministry of environment. Adoption of high technology, however, is helping us to disposing waste water effectively without harming environment,’’ he said.

Lot of investments were made in this regard, Tagore said adding that the entire stretch from Patancheru – Kukatpally to Amberpet in Hyderabad was connected with exclusive pipeline to take used water to the treatment plant.

``The pharma companies also are treating the cost associated with water disposal as raw material costs,’’ he added.

P Prem Kumar, Chairman, infrastructure committee of Ftapcci said Government recognise the need to harness multiple water resources besides designing a policy framework for rain-water harvesting.
