The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) on Wednesday quashed a ₹72-crore penalty imposed by the Department of Telecommunications on Reliance Communications (RCom).
DoT, the licensor of telecom services, had imposed the penalty on RCom, the country’s fourth-largest mobile telecom operator by subscribers, in 2011-12.
It had accused RCom of non-submission and delayed submission of Customer Acquisition Forms in Madhya Pradesh circle. In 2012, RCom had approached TDSAT challenging the penalty, citing it was “arbitrary and unjustified”.
