Nasdaq-listed Epicor Software Corporation has joined hands with Hinduja Group company Defiance Technologies in a bid to re-enter the Indian market after a gap of years. Epicor is banking on the latest release of its enterprise resource planning software (ERP), Epicore 9, to be its launch pad in India.

Defiance and Epicor will collaborate on product development and on country-specific extension to the Epicore 9 application, said Dr V Sumantran, executive vice-chairman of Hinduja Automotive.

In addition to putting together a sales strategy for the Indian market, the two entities will also provide consulting to other companies within the Hinduja fold, he added.

Epicor had exited the Indian market during the height of the 2008 financial crisis when all businesses globally were on an austerity drive.

“We were also in the middle of the development of Epicor 9, which is a much more competitive and converged offering than our ‘Scala' range which we had introduced in the market. And hence we thought it is prudent to take a step back and re-enter this market with a better product,” said Mr Rishikesh Trivedi, Channel Director, Middle East Asia, Turkey and India of Epicor.
