Karbonn Mobiles on Friday said it will launch world’s first ‘Smart Tab 1’ tablet PC loaded with the latest version of Google’s Android operating system in the country this month.
“Smart Tab 1 will be available within this month,” Karbonn Mobiles’ Executive Director Shashin Devsare told PTI.
The tablet would be priced at Rs 6,990. “Herein through our technological collaboration with MIPS Technologies and product alliance with Ingenic Semiconductor, we are proud to present the world’s first Smart Tab 1 (Tablet PC) loaded with Android ‘Jelly Bean’ technology,” Karbonn Mobiles’ Managing Director Pradeep Jain said.
California-based MIPS Technologies is a provider of chip design technology, while China-based Ingenic Semiconductor develops processor for technology products.
Jelly Bean platform is considered to be faster than previous versions of Android operating system in terms of accessing (opening, executing and closing) applications in smartphones and tablets.
Karbonn has started pre-booking of Smart Tab 1 through its website. The company will also offer a free upgrade to Android Jelly Bean from Android Ice Cream Sandwich to its existing consumers.
The tablet has 17.8 centimetre capacitive touch screen. It comes with a 3D gravity sensor, Wi-Fi, 3G support through USB dongle, a 2 megapixel front camera, 1.2GHz processor and pre-embedded applications, including Facebook.
Jain said the company wants to capture dominant share in the market and aims to sell about 200 thousand units per month by focussing on business solutions segmentation, education, healthcare and other fast growing verticals.
