Mahindra Satyam staff to get 7-10% wage hike

After a long wait, offshore employees of Mahindra Satyam are going to get hike in the range of 7-10 per cent.

“It may not be very high. But you can compare with industry levels. On site staff will get 2-3 per cent,” a company executive said.

Employees, however, continue to wait for the usual letter from T. Hari, Chief People’s Officer, which will get the good news.

The company had originally said it would give hike in June. It delayed it for two more weeks, before sending employees a mail that the wage hikes would be given with effect from July 1.

While announcing results for the first quarter early this month, C.P. Gurnani, Chief Executive Officer, had said the company would take a call on wage hike in a week.

“We are discussing it. We told them (the staff) that the hikes would be implemented with effect from July 1,” he said.

The employee costs had gone up to Rs 1,107 crore in the June quarter this year from Rs 925 crore in the comparable quarter last year.

The company, which is going to be merged with Tech Mahindra later this year, employs 36,000 staff as of June 30.

“It has not given any indication when it actually is coming. We are checking mails constantly to hear from the human resources department about the decision on hikes,” a Mahindra Satyam staffer said on condition of anonymity.

This was the second successive year that the company delayed the wage hike.

Last year, the company announced the hikes in September. It then gave an average hike of 12 per cent for offshore staff and 2.5 per cent for onsite staff.
