After nearly a year-long wait, the Apple iPad has finally been launched in India. According to Apple’s website, prices start at Rs 27,900 for the Wi-Fi version, and Rs 34,900 for the Wi-Fi + 3G version (both of 16GB capacities)
Users will be able to download apps for the iPad from the App Store, which now has several apps optimised for iPad use.
So far, the only data carrier named on the website for 3G usage is BSNL, but we expect more details once major players like Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance launch their 3G services. As of now, Apple has not tied up exclusively with any data carrier for the iPad.
What remains to be seen is whether Indian fans will flock to Apple retailers, or hold back for the much awaited iPad 2, expected to be launched later this year.
