Personal computer (PC) makers have received good responses in sales for Ultrabooks since their launch three months ago and they are planning to launch more products in this category in the near future.

“We have received an encouraging response from our customers and we will continue to introduce new machines in this category to meet our customer requirements and take the era of ‘ultra thin and ultra light’ computing to the next level,” Rajesh Thadani, Director - Consumer Business Segment, Lenovo India, said.

Emerging trend

He said Ultrabooks are the next iteration of this trend as laptops are getting thinner and lighter to fit increasingly mobile lifestyles.

Many consumers and business professionals will find that the Ultrabook fits nicely into their lifestyle and will become their PC of choice.

Categorised as a premium product and priced at above Rs 45,000 to Rs 1 lakh-plus, companies are getting all kinds of customers for the Ultrabooks.

“Ultrabooks address the unique needs of consumers who need superior performance with extreme portability. Consumers, who have this need, are primary buyers and they are from across the demographic segments,” Ranjit Yadav, Country Head (Mobile and IT), Samsung India, said.

Ultrabooks contributed to around six per cent of Samsung India’s total laptop sales over the last three months, he said.

There will be an ongoing need for different types of devices based on the type of usage needs of the consumer, said Shishir Singh, Director - Product Marketing, Dell India.

“We see it as a positive sign for the consumer market for there to be a continued growth in the wide variety of devices and screen sizes available for consumers to choose from based on their usage requirements, rather than to be limited by what is made available in market,” he said.

However, prices of these products are not likely to come down soon because of the inputs cost.

“We have got fair sales from the market, but, prices may drop in only in couple of quarters from now. That is the overall industry’s outlook,” S. Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India, said.

Sales promotion

Ultrabooks are contributing around one per cent of its total laptop sales, but it would reach around 20 per cent in next one year, he said.

To promote sales, the company has offers such as extended warranty of up to three years at Rs 999 and zero per cent interest on equated monthly instalments at its outlets, he added.
