As the fight to capture the lower end of mobile user space intensifies, Airtel has come out with a 4G phone at ₹1,349.

A bundled offer, announced in association with a Hyderabad-based mobile manufacturer Celkon Mobiles, would require customers to make a deposit of ₹2,849 to get the Celkon Smart 4G phone.

Announcing the partnership with Celkon Mobiles here on Monday, Bharti Airtel Chief Executive Officer (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) Venkatesh Vijayaraghavan said the offer is targeted at those who want to upgrade from the 2G connections. “This offer helps them quickly upgrade to 4G from 2G,” he said.

Celkon Mobiles Chairman and Managing Director Y Guru said the offer is offered for the Airtel customers across the country.

“We have a target to sell five lakh phones under this partnership. There’s a huge demand for 4G phones at the lower end as people using feature phones aspire to graduate to 4G phones,” he said.

Options Customers will get a cash refund of ₹500 and ₹1,000 on completion of 18 and 36 months, respectively. However, they need to go for a monthly recharge of ₹169 for 36 months.

Those who don’t want to join the ₹169 bundled plan can go for recharges of any denomination. To claim the cash backs, they must make recharges worth ₹3,000 in the first 18 months (to get ₹500) and another ₹ 3,000 in the remaining 18 months to claim the remaining ₹1,000.

Specifications Introduced as part of the MeraPehla Smartphone initiative that is aimed at offering cheaper 4G phones, the phone offer is open for pre-paid customers only.

It comes with a four-inch touch screen, dual-SIM slots, 1.3 GhZ quad core processor and 1500 mAh battery.

The 1-GB RAM phone has an 8 GB ROM, which expandable up to 32 GB.
